Judy turned to look at Linda with a beaming smile on her face. "This is wonderful, honey. Perfect "
Linda laughed, but there was a touch of mocking in the tone. "Yes, it is a really nice house and I'm lucky, except for the fact I'm rattling around on my own in it."
"What! A gorgeous looker like you with such a big heart." Judy gave her friend a quick squeeze. "I bet it won't be long until you find someone. Maybe even tonight, who knows."
At a loss for words, due to her thoughts, Linda just smiled.
Luckily the doorbell rang and saved her any embarrassment. The pizza delivery had been quick, for once. Linda went to collect and pay, while Judy sat at the table and sipped on her wine.
They sat opposite each other, more or less in silence, although there was no awkwardness, eating pizza, and sipping on wine. Just enjoying each other's company.
"You know Judy, this is the best. Sitting here sharing pizza and wine with my best friend in the whole world."
Judy thought she must have been kidding. Yet as she looked up at Linda, she sensed something special and personal about the soft expression on her face, and the candle dancing across her eyes with it's mellow yellow flame.
She put her glass down and reached across the table, taking one of Linda's hands between her two. "Then I'm really glad to be here."
