It's Thursday and time for some awesome writers to give a short taster of their amazing work. It can be something from a WIP or completed work. So please show some love by clicking the link, reading and leave commenting on their work. It helps and encourages each writer so much. This week's taster from me is a short excerpt from my new WIP The Grave.
Blurb
George is sitting by the side of his wife Grace's hospital bed where she lies dying. She tries to tell him something which is to prove of much importance.
“No! Don’t go! You have to concentrate on getting well!” George cried in desperation as he laid his head down on her chest. “What locket? Whatever it is can wait.” He looked up at her face with renewed love and tenderness.
All she had the strength for, however , was to pat his balding head, her gnarled fingers stroking the flesh of his scalp. “Please ... Don’t worry about me ...I’m ...” the whispered words were her final ones as she breathed her last. Grace’s heart stopped beating, the monitor flat lined and her body relaxed into eternal rest.
George let out a huge, gut wrenching, inconsolable wail. “Noooo ...! Gracie! I need you! Don’t go ...!” He held his stomach and almost doubled over with agonizing pain.
A nurse rushed over upon hearing him. After checking Grace, she switched off the monitor, removed the canula and spoke with measured compassion. “She had become very ill and it was only a matter of time. Your wife is at peace now,” He looked up from his chair, as tear tracks stained his old wrinkled face. He felt too upset to speak.
