Marjorie lay back in the hospital bed and waited. She could not believe the day had finally arrived; yet mixed in with her happiness and excitement, lay an underlying current of fear and apprehension.
“What if it's all for nothing, and doesn't work.”
Her husband, sitting at her bedside, caught hold of Marjorie's hand and held it between both of his. He leaned over and kissed her. “I'm nervous too,” he admitted. “But we have been together over thirty years, and that isn't going to change, no matter what. I love you.”
Marjorie smiled. “I love you too, and always will.”
It wasn't long before the doctor arrived closely followed by a nurse. “How are you feeling, Marjorie, nervous, I expect.”
Marjorie nodded.
“Well it's a beautiful day, maybe the sun will bring you good luck. Nurse, will you assist me. I really am keen to witness the outcome.”
He nurse snipped the bandages and unwound them from Marjorie, taking great care when she removed the final dressings.
“Well, how do you feel,”said the doctor.
Tears rolled down Marjorie's cheeks. She turned her head, smiling as she saw her husband for the first time ever.
“I feel amazing.”
