Today, like many other students, Carolyn had dived inside a local café, to avoid the sudden downpour, and on the pretence of needing a coffee. It was a place that Greg often frequented, and his heart skipped a beat when he saw her walk in. He noticed her sit at a table, alone, at the opposite end of the room to him.
Carolyn held her cup in both hands and blew off froth from the top of her drink. She sipped the drink, and gazed out of the window, with a dreamy expression on her face. Her long dark hair, slightly bedraggled and damp from the rain, hung in wavy tendrils and the occasional raindrop trickled down her.
Greg looked on, mesmerized. Finally, summing up courage he called over.“Hey Carolyn, you look lonely sitting there, why don't you join me?”
