The wonderful aroma of fresh baking immediately hit Luke too, and he glanced at Mrs Gordon with interest.
“Ah, I've just been baking,” she said, smiling. “Something I love to do.” She went to the oven and using red oven gloves pulled out a tray of hot cakes. “I've just made blueberry muffins,” she smiled.
“Mm my favorite, and I've had no breakfast. They look delicious.”
“I can wrap some up for you to take. Would you like that?”
“Oh, thank you,” he replied eagerly. “That would be wonderful.”
Tanya wrapped a couple up in some parchment paper and passed them to him. “There. I'll give them you now so I won't forget. And you are very welcome. Now come and take a look at this.”
Luke put the parcel in his bag and followed her over to the sink. Tanya opened the cupboard door to directly beneath it. Just inside she had placed a small blue bowl.
“See my problem,” she said dejectedly, pointing to the bowl. “I have to be really careful running water. There is a leak somewhere and I have not got the faintest idea how to fix it. I was told you are studying plumbing, is there any way you can help me please.”
“Well, you really need that sorting, and quickly. I can't today, but it's Saturday tomorrow. I could pop round in the afternoon and do my best to fix it.”
Tanya looked relieved. "I would be eternally grateful. You can stop for tea if you like. I'll make something nice."
“That sounds wonderful.” Luke suddenly noticed the time. “I really must go now though. Thank you for the muffins. I'll see you tomorrow, about 2pm.”
“Perfect. I'll see you then.” Tanya watched him ride off again, and couldn't help noticing the way he rocked on the saddle. Mm lovely buns, she thought, smiling inwardly. Then scolded herself for thinking like that of a man so much younger than herself.
