Judy nodded. "You're right. I'm tired." She gratefully took the hand offered as she eased herself up.
The two girls giggled like teenagers as they leaned on each other, stumbling up the stairs. "Can you remember the way to your room, Judy?"
She seemed a bit unsure, so Linda guided her there, but Judy stopped in the doorway.
"What's the matter babe? It's a comfy bed."
Oh yes, I'm sure of it hon, and normally I would love to sleep there. But ... but ..." Her voice tailed away.
Linda held her close. "Tell me, baby. What's on your mind?"
Judy's head dropped and she looked at the floor. "Well, I don't want to be lonely tonight."
Linda kissed her. "That's okay baby. You can sleep in my arms tonight. I'll look after you." She took Judy's hand again, leading her back along the landing and into her own room.
Flipping the duvet back she gently helped Judy into bed, making sure she was comfortable. Then she walked around the bed and climbed in beside her.
"Comfortable baby," she asked.
"Mm very." Judy turned her head toward Linda and smiled. Shifting a bit closer she turned and ran a finger down Linda's cheek. "You're the best friend ever."
