Brenda felt shocked at how late the day had become. The sun had gone; being replaced by a cold damp night. There was hardly any light, just a few random streetlamps.
The moon was hidden behind clouds in a starless sky. Nevertheless Brenda continued on, making a beeline for home.
Reluctantly, Brenda decided to take a shortcut down Radford Lane, which was narrow,eerie and had overgrown hawthorn bushes. There was also an old house, which some considered haunted.
She shivered, pulling her jacket closer around her and tried to hurry. The strong wind, however, rustled through the hedgerow and tried its best to steal the jacket and delay her journey. Loose wet gravel crunched beneath her feet and she tried to avoid the puddles that remained from a recent downpour. Brenda wished she were home already.
Somewhere in the distance an owl hooted. The sound echoed loud and clear; frightening Brenda. She tripped, cursing her high heels as she stumbled on landing.
Standing up, Brenda noticed a light coming from the old house. On closer inspection she saw a shadowy figure inside. Rooted to the spot she tried to scream but nothing happened.
Suddenly a strong hand gripped her shoulder ...
