“Steady on sis,” laughed Frank. “You’ll knock me flying.”
Ruth looked up at her brother with concerned eyes. “You’re pale, and you’ve lost weight.” She reached and pushed the hair out of his eyes. “You need a haircut. You are letting yourself go, but I love you anyway,” she added quickly.
Frank burst out laughing. “Have you quite finished? If so, can I have a drink please?”
“Sure, help yourself. I’ll just go and check on the food.” Ruth disappeared into the kitchen, and Frank helped himself to a scotch and soda.
Suddenly there was a loud knock on the front door.
“Hey Frank, get that for me will you,” Ruth called.
Frank opened the door to two police officers wearing sombre looks.
“Is Mrs Williams available?”
“Come in,” Frank replied, and showed them both into the lounge. “I'm her brother, I'll get her.”
“Ruth, you had better come here,” he shouted.
“What? Right now?”
“Yes now, It's important.”
